Pinewood Derby 2022 Details

The Pinewood Derby is this Saturday at Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton (1421 Alcoa Road, Benton, AR 72015). Below is some important information and the Schedule. Please read this carefully. Also, linked below is the full set of rules and race day procedures.

Tomorrow night, we will have a Tech Night at 6:30 at Salem United Methodist Church. Tech Night gives you a chance to make sure your car meets the Technical Requirements defined in our procedure, fits on the track, and gives you a chance to check your car’s weight on the scales that we will be using the day of the race.

Important Information about the race
● Class A Uniform is Required to race.
● Setup will be Friday @ 6:30. Please come and help if you are available.
● Each scout’s car will be inspected to ensure the car adheres to the inspection rules and follows minimum requirements. If a car fails inspection the scout will be allowed car remediation and resubmit prior to closing of tech inspection period.
● Only designated race officials and the Scout will handle the car. Each Scout will get his car from impound and place it on the track.
● Cars that have participated in previous Pinewood Derbies are not eligible to compete.
● Each Den will have a specific time to arrive for Check in and Tech Inspection.
● FOOD DRIVE! Bring a non-perishable food item for door prize entry.
● BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS!!
● Masks are optional but we do ask that you social distance when possible.
● There will be an Open Race for anyone (Child or Adult) that would like to race a car.

3:30 (or until all boys have raced and results tallied) – award ceremony

Online Registration:

This can be completed at anytime. See the steps below.

Step 1: Create a my.scouting.org account or, login to your account if you already have one.

Step 2: Complete the online registration form.

Step 3: Complete the Scoutbook Registration form.


How much does Cub Scouts Cost?

One-Time Registration Fee: The cost to register is $80. This money goes directly to the Boy Scouts of America and is due when you complete the registration.

Pack Fundraiser: The Pack will conduct a Popcorn Fundraiser starting in September to raise money to cover the expenses associated with our local Scouting Program. This is an important part of our program, because we use this as an opportunity to teach our boys about working hard to earn money to pay for the things they enjoy doing (i.e. Scouting). For the 2021-2022 year, each scout’s Fundraiser Sales Goal is $625. If you are unable to participate in the fundraiser, you can choose to pay an Opt-Out fee of $200. For Scouts that participate in the fundraiser, but do not meet the Sales Goal, the Opt-Out fee will be reduced based on the amount of popcorn the individual sold.

Uniform and Book Costs: The last expense is the uniform and the book. This cost will vary, but is generally between $90 and $125. Everything can be purchased at the Scout Shop in Little Rock (3220 Cantrell Rd, Little Rock, AR 72202). eBay is also a good location for purchasing Scout Uniforms at a reduced rate. Uniforms need to be purchased before our Pinewood Derby race in January.

Campout Details (10/8/2021 to 10/10/2021)

Below are the details about the Campout. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Location:
The campout will be at Ross Rhodes Reservation (987 Chestnut Dr, Bismarck, AR 71929) on Lake Degray. This address will take you to the entrance to the Reservation. We will be camping near the lake about half a mile down the camp road called “Boy Scout Road”.

Times:
Please plan to arrive anytime after 5:00 on Friday. Activities will start Saturday Morning at 9:00. The campout will conclude Sunday Morning after the Chapel Service.

Parking:
You will be allowed to drive to your campsite to unload gear. After you have unloaded your gear, please move your vehicle to the designated parking area.

Facilities:
Bathrooms, showers, and water are available. However, they are pretty rustic so don’t expect Hilton quality. Bring your own soap and toilet paper.

Activities:
Below is a list of the activities we have planned.

Team Competitions throughout the day on Saturday.
Gaga Ball.
Campfire Saturday Night.
Dutch Oven Desert Competition after the Campfire.
Breakfast Sunday Morning. $3/person, register by Tuesday (10/5) using the link above.
Chapel Sunday Morning after breakfast.

Food:
Everyone will be responsible for their own food. The Pack will have a propane four burner flat-top griddle and a two burner stove available to anyone that would like to use them. Please bring your own pots, pans and cooking utensils. If you use any Pack equipment, please clean it when you are finished.

Popcorn Fundraiser Info

Sales Goal and Opt Out:

Pack 82’s has a budget of $284 per scout for the 2021-2022 year. This year, we are fortunate to have enough excess funds to provide an $84 discount to every scout. The remaining amount will be raised by participating in the Popcorn Fundraiser or paying the Opt-Out fee. Below are the goals for this year.

Sales Goal is $625 per scout.

The Opt-Out is $200 per scout. NOTE: If you sell popcorn, but do not meet the sales goal, the opt-out will be reduced on a sliding scale based on how much popcorn was sold.

Due Dates:

Tues 10/26 – Turn in all Opt-Out fees and/or Popcorn sales.

Sat 11/13 – Any popcorn that was ordered will be available for delivery.

Online Account Setup:

Everyone needs to setup an online account. This will add you to our roster and enable you to conduct online sales. To set your account up, please follow the instructions below.

1. Go to https://campmasters.org
2. At the bottom of the webpage, click on the link “Councils, units, and scouts sign in here”
3. Click on the blue box “Scout’s Register”
4. Make sure the “Register as” scout button is marked blue or clicked AND the NO button is blue or checked to answer the question “Are you under 13?”
5. Fill in ALL information fields, click the “I have read and agree…” box, then click CONTINUE
6. In the next window, you will need to search for our pack. To do so, type in Quapaw 3082 and select Pack 3082 of Benton. Select our pack and click Register.
7. The system will send an email to the email account you registered with. Go and retrieve that email.
8. Click the link in the email to complete your registration. A web browser window will open to your scout’s dashboard on campmasters.org
9. In your scout’s dashboard, complete any TO-DO items in your TO-DO list at the top of the page. Once those are completed, you can use this dashboard to set up an online profile to sell online.

Below are the dates. Signup at Scouts or contact Russ Rhodes at russrhodesjr@gmail.com or 501-920-4036. Each scout can signup for one 2 hour slot. Additional slots will be available after everyone has had a chance to signup.

Important Information:

All in person orders and donations need to be captured on the paper order form. DO NOT LOSE YOUR FORMS.

Donations can be accepted. Please record them on the paper order form.

Online orders will be automatically captured on the online system.

Money will need to be collected at the time of order. Cash or Check only. No Credit Cards.

Checks can be made out to either the parent or to Pack 82. NOTE: For check(s) made out to the parent, the parent will need to deposit the check(s) into their bank account and write Pack 82 a single check for the total amount of the sales.

Parents are responsible for keeping up with all money collected and turning it in on Tuesday 10/26. No popcorn will be ordered without payment.

Parents can check-out inventory to sell starting on Tuesday 9/21.

Don’t forget to offer the “Support the Military” option. People can give a partial amount if they do not want to give the full $30 or $50 donation. All partial donations can be combined at the end and applied to a single $30 or $50 option.

Prizes:

The pack will provide weekly prizes at Den Meetings.

Anyone who sales $1200 or more will receive a special prize from Pack 82.

Amazon Gift Cards from Campmaster. See sales form for details.

Amazon Gift Cards from the Council. Anyone who sells $2500 will be entered in a drawing for a $250 amazon card. There will be an additional card for every 5 scouts entered. The top 3 sellers will be recognized at the council banquet.
